This was disclosed in a statement by the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, SP Emonena Gunn, on Tuesday. Hamzat’s appointment follows the retirement of AIG Paul Alifa Omata. A native of Ifelodun LGA, Kwara State, Hamzat is a seasoned officer with a Sociology degree from the University of Ilorin, a Master’s in Conflict Management & Peace Studies from UNIJOS, and a PhD in Peace and Development Studies from Unilorin.

SP Gunn described Hamzat as a distinguished fellow of the defense college with vast experience in various police capacities, both locally and internationally. His career includes commendable roles in United Nations missions in Kosovo and Timor Leste. Prior to his current role, he served as AIG of the Counter Terrorism Unit, Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, and Commissioner of Police in the Border Patrol Force.
