Nigeria Can Generate More Revenue From Cassava – Minister Nnaji

Nnaji emphasized Nigeria’s status as the leading global producer of cassava, with an annual output reaching around 34 million tons.

The Minister expressed confidence in further increasing this production by leveraging improved and pest-resistant cassava varieties.

During a recent visit to the Federal Institute of Industrial Research Oshodi (FIIRO) in Lagos, Nnaji explored various sections of the agency, including the cassava processing lines.

These processing lines yield an array of primary products, contributing to the nation’s economic diversification. Additionally, he inspected the paper production unit, which employs biowastes to combat deforestation.

Nnaji also visited the metal fabrication center, equipped with a range of lathe machines, and examined the bottled palm wine with an extended shelf life of six months.

Overall, the Minister’s visit underscored the immense economic potential of cassava and highlighted various avenues for Nigeria to capitalize on its benefits.

Nnaji urged entrepreneurs and manufacturers to tap into domestic sources for raw materials, machinery, and spare parts, including agencies like FIIRO under his Ministry.

He outlined his strategy of establishing pilot plants for specific products to facilitate investment in the commercialization of Research and Development outcomes.

During the visit, FIIRO’s Director-General, Dr. Jummai Adamu, presented a visual overview of the institute’s history, programs, and projects.

The presentation showcased a range of products developed by FIIRO, demonstrating its commitment to enhancing Nigeria’s industrialization by leveraging local raw materials and improving production techniques.
