Nigerian Immigration Probes Torn Passport Incident at Lagos Airport
Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has launched a formal investigation following the viral circulation of a video showing a female traveler tearing a Nigerian Standard Passport at Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos.
The individual in question has been identified as Mrs. Favour Igiebor, who holds passport number A11990869.
According to a statement released by Kenneth Udo, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service, the Comptroller General of Immigration has instructed that Mrs. Favour Igiebor be summoned for further investigation.
If the allegations against her are confirmed, her actions would constitute a violation of Section 10(b) of the Immigration Act 2015 (as amended). The corresponding penalties for such an offense are detailed under Section 10(h) of the same Act.
Udo emphasized that the Nigeria Immigration Service remains committed to enforcing the provisions of the Immigration Act to safeguard national security and uphold the dignity and integrity of the country’s legal instruments.
This ongoing investigation underscores the NIS’s dedication to maintaining the integrity of Nigerian passports and ensuring that such incidents are addressed with the seriousness they deserve.
