Nigerian Student Somtochukwu Okwuoha Faces Jail Time, Deportation Over Threat To Bomb UK University
A Nigerian master’s student in the United Kingdom, Somtochukwu Okwuoha, has been remanded in custody after being found guilty by a jury of making terrorist threats against Dundee University in Scotland.
Mr. Okwuoha, 26, claimed to have enlisted ISIS, an international terrorist organization, to help bomb the university and informed staff members of his intention to target Dundee in a chemical attack.
He faces jail and deportation after the jury found him guilty on seven charges.
The court will consider the Crown’s request for an order to deport Mr. Okwuoha to Nigeria during his sentencing in December.
During the trial, witnesses testified that Mr. Okwuoha informed university staff members of his intentions to carry out mass murder on the Dundee University campus. The witnesses recounted how he asserted having a military background, claiming capability in bomb-making, and threatening to unleash a deadly virus on the city.
A 58-year-old retired director of student services, Keith Mackle, shared with the Perth Sheriff Court that he became aware of “serious concerns” in the autumn of 2021. He stated that staff members received emails containing terrorist threats.

“Expect a massive bomb explosion at the University of Dundee. I have contacted ISIS terrorists to plant bombs on campus.
“I can assure you staff and students will die in great numbers. 9/11 will be a joke compared to what will happen.
“Blood will spill and flesh will be scattered,” one of the mails read.
Shane Taylor, an accommodation officer, informed the court that Mr. Okwuoha accused him of being racist and expressed his intention to seek revenge by wiping out Scottish people. Mr. Okwuoha, currently a prisoner at Perth, has been found guilty of threatening to murder university staff members and committing terrorist crimes spanning from December 2021 to June 2022.
The convicted student faced charges including threatening mass murder, using biological weapons, disclosing staff details to international authorities, and claiming to have planted bombs. Additionally, he was found guilty of threatening to kill police officers and detonate bombs he purportedly planted at Dundee University.
In a separate incident in June, another Nigerian student named Cyril Kenneth, who arrived in the UK in February, was arrested by the police for allegedly attempting to sexually harass minors in the Belfast province. The police disclosed evidence of Mr. Kenneth grooming and sexually harassing two girls aged 14 and 15.
