Nigerians In Peril Abroad: FG Steps In To Rescue Citizens Stuck In Central African Republic
The Federal Government has initiated urgent measures to repatriate a group of Nigerian workers reportedly stranded in the Bambari region of the Central African Republic, approximately 850 kilometers from the capital, Bangui.
This move comes after a disturbing video surfaced online showing distressed Nigerian nationals abandoned by their employers in the remote area.
ACCORDING TO IREPORTER ONLINE, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed on Friday that the Nigerian Mission in the Central African Republic has successfully established contact with the affected individuals.
The Embassy of Nigeria in Bangui, in collaboration with local authorities, is actively coordinating their safety and swift evacuation.
In a statement released by the ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, it was disclosed that the stranded individuals’ passports have been retrieved and arrangements made for their transportation to the capital city under military escort.
The evacuees are expected to arrive in Bangui on Saturday, July 26, 2025.
ACCORDING TO IREPORTER ONLINE, discussions are currently underway with the employer involved to ensure temporary accommodation and welfare support for the victims pending their repatriation to Nigeria.
The Federal Government, while reiterating its commitment to safeguarding Nigerians abroad, urged citizens to conduct thorough background checks on prospective overseas employers and ensure that all travel documentation is accurate and complete.
ACCORDING TO IREPORTER ONLINE, the ministry also emphasized the importance of registering with Nigerian embassies in host countries to avoid complications in emergency situations or consular matters.
This latest development underscores the government’s ongoing commitment to citizen welfare, especially in volatile regions, and serves as a renewed call for vigilance among Nigerians seeking employment opportunities abroad.
