Nigeria’s Ruling Party Warns U.S. Against False Narratives, Urges Partnership Not Threats

According to Ireporter Online, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticised the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) over their comments on the alleged military threat by United States President Donald Trump against Nigeria, describing their remarks as reckless and unpatriotic.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme, expressed dismay at what he called an attempt by the opposition to politicise a matter of grave national concern. He maintained that such behaviour was not only insensitive but also detrimental to Nigeria’s image and stability.

Morka urged the U.S. government to base its decisions or statements concerning Nigeria on verified and factual information, stressing that any move influenced by misinformation could have disastrous implications, not only for Nigeria but for the entire West African subregion.

He warned that any form of military intervention by the United States could trigger widespread instability across neighbouring nations, adding that cooperation between both countries remained the most effective path toward combating terrorism.

“But you see, whatever it is, the United States government under President Trump has a responsibility to ensure it gets the facts right,” Morka stated. “Any action based on false or fabricated narratives about Nigeria won’t affect Nigeria alone; it will reverberate across the region.”

He further noted that Nigeria’s porous borders mean that any external aggression could spark a ripple effect of reactions and counter-reactions across West Africa. Morka stressed that the U.S. should seek partnership and provide technical or military support to Nigeria’s ongoing fight against terrorism rather than issue threats.

The APC spokesperson berated the opposition parties for making what he described as “senseless political noise,” insisting that it was wrong to exploit a potential national security threat for political gain. “It is utterly irresponsible and despicable for any political party to attempt to make political capital from a foreign country’s threat of military action against our sovereign nation,” he said.

He concluded that this was not the time for political point-scoring but a period for national unity and collective action in defence of Nigeria’s sovereignty.
