No Cause For Panic: States Reassure Citizens After DSS Security Warning
According to Ireporter Online, the governments of Ondo and Kogi States have appealed to residents to remain calm and vigilant in response to a security alert issued by the Department of State Services (DSS) regarding potential terrorist threats.
In separate statements, both state governments emphasized that there is no cause for panic, describing the alert as a testament to the proactive efforts of Nigeria’s security agencies.
Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, noted that the DSS intelligence report demonstrates the agency’s alertness and commitment to national security. He commended the DSS for providing timely intelligence capable of thwarting any planned attacks.
Fanwo assured citizens that the state government is maintaining close coordination with the DSS, the Nigerian Army, the Police, and other security outfits to detect and neutralize any threats. He urged residents to remain calm, continue their daily activities without fear, and promptly report any suspicious behavior or individuals to security authorities.
Similarly, the Ondo State Government advised residents not to panic following the circulation of a leaked security memo reportedly sent from the DSS to the 32 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Akure. Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Idowu Ajanaku, clarified that such memos are routine inter-agency communications aimed at preventing potential risks.
Ajanaku explained that the intelligence shared forms part of continuous surveillance and preventive security operations. He assured that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s administration is in close collaboration with all security agencies and has intensified monitoring efforts, particularly in border areas, to maintain peace and safety.
The government further appealed to residents to remain cooperative with security operatives and to report any suspicious movement immediately. Ajanaku reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to keeping Ondo State one of the safest in the country.
