Addressing journalists after the State Executive Council meeting, the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, emphasized that education remains completely free from primary school to Junior Secondary School 3 (JSS3) in all public schools.
For students in Senior Secondary School (SS1–SS3), he noted that the only approved payment is a reduced tuition fee of N3,300.
Prince Kanu warned that any school head who secretly demands money from students under the guise of levies or fees will face severe sanctions, including dismissal and legal action.
“The state government has already provided imprest funds for school heads to cover routine expenses,” he said. “So, there is no excuse for anyone to exploit parents or students.”
He concluded by urging all school officials involved in such practices to stop immediately or be prepared to face the full weight of the law.
