According to Ireporter Online, President Bola Tinubu has affirmed that the new tax laws will officially take effect on January 1, 2026, despite concerns raised by some groups. In a statement released on Tuesday, the President clarified that the reforms are aimed at harmonizing the tax system rather than increasing tax burdens.

President Tinubu acknowledged public debates surrounding the new laws but stated that no significant issues have emerged to justify delaying their implementation. He assured that his administration will follow due process and collaborate with key stakeholders, including the National Assembly, to address any identified challenges.

“The new tax laws, including those enacted on June 26, 2025, and those scheduled to begin on January 1, 2026, will proceed as planned. These reforms offer a once-in-a-generation opportunity to establish a fair, competitive, and robust fiscal foundation for Nigeria,” the President said.

He emphasized that the laws are intended to support structural reforms, enhance harmonization, and protect citizens’ dignity while strengthening the social contract. President Tinubu urged all stakeholders to back the implementation phase, describing it as a critical stage in the delivery of the reforms.
