According to Ireporter Online, Ibom Air has firmly denied responsibility for the release of a viral video showing a passenger in a state of indecent exposure during an altercation aboard one of its flights.

The airline’s Group Manager for Marketing and Communications, Aniekan Essienette, clarified that although the incident occurred onboard, there were several individuals present who were not Ibom Air employees, making it possible for the recording to have been captured and circulated by outsiders. She stressed that the company does not condone such exposure and would never have released the footage.

Essienette’s remarks come after the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, directed that any staff member found culpable in leaking the video should face disciplinary action. While acknowledging that filming the incident for court purposes was permissible, the minister described making such footage public as “totally unacceptable.”

Explaining the circumstances that led to the confrontation, Essienette noted that the passenger in question had refused to disembark when instructed, leading the pilot to summon security. The crew briefly restrained her to ensure she was handed directly to authorities, during which the indecent exposure occurred.

She maintained that airlines have no interest in humiliating passengers and urged regulatory bodies to introduce stricter preventive measures against disruptive behaviour on flights.
