Obi, Kwankwaso Conditions Ruined Our Possible Collaboration — PRP Chairman Baba-Ahmed
According to Ireporter Online, the National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has disclosed that a proposed political collaboration involving former presidential candidates, Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, collapsed after disagreements over conditions for joining the party.
Baba-Ahmed made the revelation during a Hausa political programme on DITV Kaduna, explaining that initial discussions between the PRP and the two politicians progressed to the stage of considering a committee to advance negotiations. However, the talks reportedly broke down after Obi and Kwankwaso’s camps allegedly demanded the party’s presidential ticket without internal competition.
He stated that the PRP leadership rejected the request, insisting that any aspirant must first formally join the party and adhere to its internal democratic processes before seeking elective office. Baba-Ahmed maintained that while the party acknowledged the political strength and followership of both figures, it could not compromise its constitution or allow automatic tickets.
He further explained that the discussions also included requests for significant party positions based on the supporters the politicians intended to bring into the PRP, a demand the party said could only be considered after full membership.
Baba-Ahmed also noted that concerns about the PRP’s status on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal, as well as internal issues and conflicting claims of membership, contributed to the breakdown of the proposed alliance.
He added that despite the disagreements, the discussions ended amicably without any dispute between both sides.
