A foundation member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Osita Okechukwu, has warmly welcomed Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State and his political allies into the party, urging them not to be discouraged by internal opposition, according to iReporter Online.

In a statement released on Monday, Okechukwu expressed bewilderment over the stance of the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji, who has publicly opposed the governor’s potential defection to the APC, iReporter Online reports.

Describing Nnaji as “a hijacker and kind of political bandit from the PDP,” Okechukwu accused him of attempting to drive away a high-performing governor, a move that could jeopardize the party’s ambition to capture the Enugu Government House for the first time, according to iReporter Online.

Okechukwu emphasized that the party’s founding members stand firmly behind Governor Mbah and advised him to disregard Nnaji’s comments.

He said, “For we, the foundation members, Governor Peter Mbah should disregard the rantings of our dear brother, the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji, because we want to win Lion Building for the first time and join 23 other states to guarantee President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s victory in 2027.”

The remarks came after Nnaji reportedly stated at a meeting in Enugu on Sunday, “Anybody who wants to run for the governorship of Enugu State, let him come to the APC; we will go to contest, we are waiting for them.”

Okechukwu also urged Nnaji to concentrate on his ministry’s achievements, pointing out, “we are yet to locate any innovative stride he has made in the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology.”

He further cautioned against allowing Nnaji, who came a distant fourth in the gubernatorial election and had a poor showing in the 2023 presidential polls, to undermine the APC’s efforts again.
