Okpebholo Supports State of Emergency in Rivers, Rejects South-South Governors’ Stance

While the forum rejected the president’s decision, Okpebholo clarified that he was neither consulted nor involved in the resolution taken by his counterparts in the region.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, Okpebholo affirmed his support for President Tinubu’s measures aimed at restoring peace and stability in Rivers State and the broader South-South region.

“The position taken by the South-South Governors opposing the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State did not receive my endorsement, as I was neither informed nor involved in the decision-making process,” the statement read.

He acknowledged the right of other governors to express their views but maintained his stance in favor of the federal government’s intervention, emphasizing that President Tinubu, as Commander-in-Chief, is well aware of the critical issues at hand.

The declaration, announced on March 18, was aimed at resolving the escalating political crisis between Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.
