Oluwo Seeks Tranquility In Boundary Conflict, Requests Oyo And Osun Governments’ Cooperation
The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi has appealed to the Osun and Oyo state governments to tighten security and harmonise their interests for peace to reign in border communities between the two states.
Oluwo made the appeal in the light of recent protests by residents of Oke-Oba, Iwo.
The spokesperson of the Oluwo, Ibraheem Alli in a statement made available to DAILY POST on Friday stated that Oke-Oba residents in their hundreds had stormed the Oluwo’s palace to protest against alleged arson on their farmlands and villages.
The statement also pointed that the culprit behind the act was one Akeem Adeboye, an indigene of Ofa-Igbo, a boundary community in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The protesters alleged that Akeem Adeboye led some thugs to burn many villages in Oke Oba, including Ògún-Àjọ, Pàkú, Arẹ́kẹ́sẹ́, Ejísùn, Ọlọ́yàá, Mọnlámù, Eléérú, Onílàpá, Petugbélé, Màákò and Ẹlẹ́yẹ, and also destroyed farmlands.
Addressing the protesters, Oba Àkànbí called for peace and urged appropriate authorities to take necessary steps on time to avoid further destruction.
He equally appealed to the protesters and the victims of the damage to be calm and civil in their approach and disclosed that civil efforts are in top gear to permanently address the matter.
The monarch also appealed to Osun and Oyo state governments to harmonise their interests for peace to reign.
“Be patient and calm while waiting for the necessary papers from National Boundary Commission as the right government agency in charge to find ever lasting solution.
“The boundary tussle is already before the National Boundary Commission. Sooner, the issue will be put to permanent rest,” he said.
Oluwo also commended the Police and judiciary for embracing civil mechanisms to protect life and properties.
