Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde Channels Film Proceeds Into A Powerful Message Of Mother’s Love

According to Ireporter Online, Nollywood veteran and TIME 100 honoree, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, has marked her 30th year in film and her directorial debut with a historic act of philanthropy. Her latest film, Mother’s Love, will have all box office proceeds from its Nigerian cinema run donated to the non-governmental organization Slum2School Africa, which provides educational access to vulnerable communities. The film is distributed in Nigeria by Nile Entertainment.

The announcement was made during a private screening of the film on March 13, 2026, attended by over 200 guests, including approximately 50 residents of the Makoko community. Traditional rulers and notable figures such as Zakari Momodu, Ifueko Omoigui-Okauro, and Ambassador Nimi Akinkugbe were present, highlighting the connection between the film’s narrative and the communities it aims to support.

The Board of Directors of RedHot Concepts, Omotola’s production company, has formally resolved that all proceeds from the film’s eight-to-ten-week theatrical run in Nigeria will be directed entirely to Slum2School Africa. Funds will support educational programs and, where possible, housing assistance, with a particular focus on the Makoko waterside community. The donation process will be independently overseen by a legal adviser and auditor to ensure full transparency and accountability.

Omotola’s initiative positions Mother’s Love among only four films in global cinema history to donate 100 percent of its theatrical proceeds to charitable causes, distinguishing it from other philanthropic film efforts that are profit-based or campaign-specific. Examples of past initiatives include Steven Spielberg’s donation from Schindler’s List, Disney’s Force for Change campaign tied to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and the #BlackPantherChallenge. African precedents include Beat the Drum, Shout Gladi Gladi, and The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, but Omotola’s approach is uniquely comprehensive, representing the full proceeds of a production company’s theatrical run.
