Osimhen Confesses Disappointment Despite Galatasaray’s Win Over Juventus In Champions League Playoff
Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen delivered a candid assessment of Galatasaray S.K.’s performance following their dramatic UEFA Champions League playoff win over Juventus F.C. in Turin. Despite the Turkish side securing a place in the Round of 16 with a 7-5 aggregate victory, Osimhen did not hide his disappointment with how the team performed.
Galatasaray entered the second leg with a commanding 5-2 advantage from the first match in Istanbul, but the Allianz Stadium encounter quickly turned turbulent as Juventus surged to a 3-0 lead on the night. Osimhen scored a crucial goal to reduce the deficit to 3-1, putting Galatasaray 6-5 ahead on aggregate. Barış Alper Yılmaz later struck in the dying moments, confirming Galatasaray’s progression.
Speaking to CBS Sports Golazo after the match, the 27-year-old Nigerian admitted, “If I have to be honest, I am disappointed with the team’s performance. Juventus played well, and while we qualified, there is much to improve before facing the top teams in the next round.”
He also criticized the mindset of some teammates during key moments, revealing, “Some of my teammates were timid. I tried to motivate them, but I cannot do it alone. They were intimidated by the crowd and Juventus’ intensity.” Osimhen added that Galatasaray even performed better after Juventus received a red card, highlighting the resilience within the squad.
Attention now turns to the Round of 16, where Galatasaray could face either Liverpool F.C. or Tottenham Hotspur F.C. Osimhen, aware of the challenge ahead, said, “Meeting Liverpool would be like some sort of revenge. Whoever we meet, it won’t be easy, but we will fight.”
