Osun IRS Set To Shut Down Businesses Avoiding Tax Payments

The Osun State Internal Revenue Service (OIRS) has announced that it will begin shutting down business premises that have failed to meet their tax obligations to the government. According to a statement by the Information Officer of the agency, Oluwaseun Ayeni, this enforcement action is set to commence on Monday.

During an awareness campaign in Osogbo, Mr. Adesola Adewumi, Chairman of the OIRS, emphasized the need for businesses to comply with tax requirements. Adewumi, represented by the Director of Legal and Enforcement, Mr. Deji Atoyebi, urged defaulting businesses to settle their tax liabilities immediately to avoid the impending clampdown.

“The OIRS has completed plans to initiate tax enforcement against those who continue to neglect their tax obligations to the state,” said Adewumi. He also mentioned that the board had already issued harmonized demand notices to these businesses.

Adewumi advised businesses that are yet to receive a harmonized demand notice to visit the nearest OIRS tax station or request their bill online. He warned that those who fail to comply could face significant disruptions in their operations as the enforcement proceeds.
