Jigawa further revealed that the vandals not only stole cables but also drained transformers of their oil, coils, and other essential parts, leaving behind only empty tanks.

“The scale of vandalism has been overwhelming,” said Jigawa. “Some lines were completely stripped, and aluminum conductors supplying certain communities were entirely removed. We had 213 kV circuits down for several days, and it was only yesterday that we managed to restore the last one.”

He added, “We’ve suffered significant losses in terms of distribution assets, especially transformers and cables. In some cases, the vandals took everything, leaving just the empty tanks behind.”

Jigawa appealed to local communities to remain vigilant and safeguard electrical infrastructure, warning that further vandalism would lead to more power outages.
