PDP Acknowledges Tough Challenge Ahead: APC Formidable In 2027
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed the challenge of dislodging the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming 2027 presidential election without the formation of a genuine coalition, emphasizing the need for unity among opposition parties….CONTINUE READING
Former Vice President and PDP’s 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, put forth a proposal for a merger during a meeting with the National Executive Committee of the Inter-Party Advisory Council of Nigeria.
Atiku warned against the potential transformation of Nigeria into a one-party state under the APC’s dominance.
Highlighting the urgency of collaborative efforts, Atiku stated, “If we don’t come together to challenge what the ruling party is trying to create, our democracy will suffer for it, and the consequences of it will affect the generations yet unborn.”
In an exclusive interview with Saturday PUNCH, PDP Deputy Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, reiterated the party’s stance, asserting that a genuine coalition was essential to unseating the Bola Tinubu-led APC administration.
Abdullahi claimed that the APC had brought impoverishment to Nigerians and emphasized the necessity for opposition parties to unite for a more effective outcome.
He said, “We believe only a merger or coming together of all opposition political parties will produce a better result. So there is a need for other political parties to understand that it will be difficult to defeat the All Progressives Congress without a merger.”
Emphasizing the strength of the PDP, Abdullahi stated, “It is very difficult for us to attain the objective of taking charge of the government and sacking this army of occupation that has decided to inflict maximum penury and anguish on Nigerians unless there is unity.”
The sentiment of collaborative efforts was echoed by PDP Deputy National Youth Leader, Timothy Osadolor, who emphasized the importance of synergy with the people for opposition political parties to effectively challenge the ruling party.
