PDP Leadership Crisis Deepens As Court Voids Rivers Congresses

A Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has declared the ward, local government, and state congresses of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), conducted in 2024, null and void. The court also barred the party’s executives who emerged from those congresses from functioning in any official capacity.

The ruling, delivered by Justice Stephen Jumbo, stemmed from an interlocutory injunction sought by two Port Harcourt-based lawyers, Edwin Woko and Love Otuonye, alongside two other PDP members. The applicants had challenged the legality of the congresses and accused the party of violating a prior court order.
