Peter Obi And Seyi Tinubu Had A Meeting? – Fact Emerge
A photo purportedly depicting a meeting between former Nigerian presidential candidate Peter Obi and Seyi Tinubu, the son of Nigeria’s president, has been shared on Facebook.
The accompanying caption in a post dated August 19, 2023, states: “This is the son of the president Mr. Seyi Tinubu and his Excellency Mr. Peter Obi. Time for politics has elapsed; we are in governance now.”
Obi, a member of the Labour Party, is currently engaged in a legal challenge against Bola Tinubu’s victory in the 2023 election.
The image of Seyi Tinubu and Obi has generated various reactions from Nigerians, with some viewing the meeting positively and others expressing skepticism, suggesting that the photo might have been manipulated using software like Photoshop.
The same image was shared in multiple places here, here, here, here, here and here.
However, to verify the authenticity of the image, we conducted a Google reverse image search and discovered a nearly identical photo published in a report back in May.
In the original photo, Tinubu is seen wearing the same black shirt and baseball cap while assuming the same posture, with his left hand resting on the back of a chair.
In the original context, Seyi Tinubu was engaged in a conversation with Umar Faruk Lawal, who was elected president of the National Association of Nigerian Students. Lawal also serves as the convener of the Coalition of Civil Society Groups, which refuted a Bloomberg report claiming that the president’s son had purchased an $11 million house in the United Kingdom.
The image that was circulating in August 2023 is a manipulated version of the original photo taken in May. As such, it does not provide concrete evidence of a meeting between Seyi Tinubu and Peter Obi.
