Former governor of Anambra State and Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, has called for special attention to be given to small businesses by Commonwealth nations.

He emphasized that this focus on Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) is essential for sustainable growth and development across the member countries.

Obi made these remarks at a global conference organized by the Bangladesh Government in collaboration with the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

He stressed the crucial role of SMEs in global economic expansion, job creation, innovation, and domestic investment. Obi highlighted the need for formalization and internationalization of SMEs to unlock their full potential and foster economic growth.

He also pointed out that SMEs constitute a significant portion of businesses and job creation worldwide, particularly in developing and emerging markets. Obi concluded that investing in SMEs’ formalization and internationalization can significantly enhance the socio-economic development of Commonwealth countries.

He emphasized the importance of collaboration between stakeholders, including the Commonwealth organization and governments of member countries, to achieve this goal.
