Phyna Breaks Silence: Defends BBL Surgery Despite Ongoing Family Grief

Media personality and winner of Big Brother Naija Season 7, Phyna, has responded to mounting criticism over her decision to undergo Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) and 360 liposuction months after the passing of her sister, Ruth Otabor.

According to media reports, the reality star addressed the controversy during an Instagram livestream on Saturday, where she described many of her critics as hypocritical and emphasised that she had already mourned her sister privately. She maintained that grieving is a deeply personal process and should not be dictated or validated by public opinion.

Phyna stated that she does not feel obligated to display her pain online, stressing that her late sister remains in her heart regardless of public perception. She cautioned critics against dragging her sister’s memory into the debate, noting that her loss is a private matter that should be respected.

She further defended her family’s decision to resume normal life after the burial, explaining that individuals cope with grief differently and that continuing with life does not diminish the love or loss felt for a deceased relative.

Addressing rumours circulating online, Phyna dismissed claims that she received financial compensation from the Dangote Group in connection with her sister’s death, describing such allegations as false and misleading.

The reality star remained unapologetic about her cosmetic surgery, revealing that persistent criticism of her body played a role in her decision. She added that she is embracing her new appearance and expressed confidence about showcasing her transformed look publicly.

Reports indicate that Ruth Otabor died on August 31, 2025, following injuries sustained in a road accident involving a truck linked to the Dangote Group.
