Plunged Into Mourning: Gunmen Strike Plateau Again, Leave 20 Dead In Midnight Massacre!

At least 20 people lost their lives on Monday night in Bindi, a village in the Ta-Hoss district of Riyom Local Government Area, Plateau State, following a coordinated and gruesome assault by gunmen suspected to be Fulani militias.

The attackers, heavily armed and operating with military precision, reportedly launched a house-to-house offensive while residents slept, leaving scores injured and forcing entire families to flee in terror.

According to iReporter Online, eyewitnesses described a chilling scene in which the armed assailants targeted vulnerable groups—particularly women, children, and the elderly—who were unable to escape the sudden onslaught. Survivors recounted that the attackers carried out the raid with brutal efficiency, suggesting a premeditated and well-orchestrated plan.

In a statement released on Tuesday in Jos by Gideon Manjal and Gadu Daniel Dong, Chairman and Publicity Secretary of the Coalition for the Protection of Democracy (COPDEM), Riyom chapter, the group condemned the massacre, describing it as part of a calculated effort to displace indigenous people from their ancestral lands. “This assault occurred despite the visible presence of security forces in and around the area, including armored military assets,” the statement noted, expressing deep concern over what it termed institutional silence and complicity.

COPDEM further alleged that the perpetrators are well known to both government and security agencies, yet no tangible efforts have been made to dismantle their camps or neutralize the threat. “These known threats continue to strike with impunity, often unchallenged,” the group lamented.

The coalition appealed to President Bola Tinubu and Plateau State authorities to immediately initiate a comprehensive military operation targeting the enclaves of the suspected terrorists. It also called for emergency humanitarian intervention, including trauma support for the displaced and survivors of the attack.

Communities like Ta-Hoss, Jol, Rim, and Bachi, the group said, have been victims of recurring bloodshed without any meaningful protection or justice. According to iReporter Online, this latest tragedy underscores the broader pattern of violence across Nigeria’s Middle Belt, where longstanding ethnic and religious tensions continue to claim innocent lives and threaten national stability.

As of press time, both the Plateau State Police Command and Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), the special military taskforce overseeing security in the region, had yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.
