Identified as Adamu Saidu, aged 30, and Idris Bala, aged 30, both hailing from the Masaka area of Nasarawa State, the suspects were apprehended by operatives from the Kpakungu Division on February 29, 2024. They were subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna for further interrogation.
According to DSP Wasiu Abiodun, the spokesperson for the command, Adamu Saidu was initially apprehended on February 6 during a robbery incident in the Gidan-Kwano area of Minna. The arrest followed a report lodged at the Kpakungu Division detailing the invasion of two student lodges by armed individuals, resulting in the theft of over 25 mobile phones, a laptop, and power banks.
During the arrest, Saidu sustained injuries from a mob confrontation and was subsequently admitted to the IBB Specialist Hospital for medical treatment. Law enforcement recovered incriminating evidence, including a laptop, fourteen mobile phones, two power banks, and a cutlass, from the suspect.
In a bizarre turn of events, while Saidu was under medical care, Idris Bala purportedly arrived at the hospital, claiming to be the suspect’s relative from Bauchi. However, investigations revealed that Bala colluded with Saidu to tamper with police restraints and attempted to facilitate his escape.
Bala allegedly confessed that he was misled into believing Saidu was involved in a motor accident and was sent by Saidu’s mother to assist. However, upon learning the truth about Saidu’s criminal activities, he conspired to aid his escape from custody.
Currently undergoing investigation at SCID Minna, both suspects will soon face charges in court as the police intensify efforts to combat crime and ensure justice for the victims.
