Police Arrest Two for Attempting to Exhume Farm Worker’s Body in Kwara

A man named Haruna Umar has been arrested in Taberu, a community within Okuta District, Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State, for allegedly attempting to exhume the body of a missing farm labourer.

The deceased, simply identified as Gunu, had been working for a local farmer, Halidu Yakubu, before suddenly disappearing without a trace. Concerned by the disappearance, Yakubu made efforts to locate him but was unsuccessful.

The situation took a shocking turn when Yakubu allegedly spotted Umar digging suspiciously on a farm near the area. Confronting him, Yakubu reportedly extracted a confession: Umar admitted he was digging up the corpse of Gunu, who had been killed and secretly buried at the location.

A local resident confirmed the account, saying Umar openly confessed after being challenged.

Kwara State Police Command spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the arrest, classifying the incident as a case of culpable homicide. She disclosed that a hoe and a stick were recovered from the scene — tools believed to have been used in the attempted exhumation.

Two suspects, Haruna Umar and Aminu Gona, have been apprehended and confessed to the crime. A third accomplice, known by the nickname “Focuse,” remains on the run.

Ejire-Adeyemi added that efforts are ongoing to track down the fugitive, and the arrested suspects will be charged in court once investigations conclude.
