Police Crackdown in Imo: Five Kidnappers Arrested, Robber Nabbed

Imo State Police have made significant strides in their fight against crime, with recent operations leading to the arrest of five suspected kidnappers and one armed robber.

In a statement released on X by the Nigerian Police Force on Wednesday, September 11, the police outlined their recent successes. According to the statement.

“The Nigeria Police Force is committed to enhancing national security and safeguarding every citizen. Our recent operations across the country, especially in Owerri, Imo State, have been crucial in addressing various criminal activities, including kidnapping.”

The statement highlights the arrest of five individuals involved in kidnappings across Obinze, Avu, and Ihiagwa. The suspects—Umaru Usman (40) from Mauree, Sokoto; Tukur Yau (25) from Dawakinkudur, Kano State; Musbau Sabo (18) from Warsaw LGA, Kano State; Abdul Ibrahim (30) from Sokoto State; and Jubrin Idris (35) from Sokoto State—were apprehended on August 21, 2024, in Avu. They are linked to several kidnapping cases, and their arrest led to the successful rescue of a victim.

In a separate operation on the same day, Nwauba Alex, a 25-year-old from Ezza LGA, Ebonyi State, was arrested for attempted robbery. Alex was caught trying to rob two residents at gunpoint near Aladinma Primary School in Owerri. Police recovered a locally made pistol, two rounds of live ammunition, and torchlights from him.

The Nigerian Police Force remains steadfast in its mission to combat crime. Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD., NPM., emphasized the continued focus on both preventive and reactive measures to ensure public safety.

This operation underscores the dedication of the Imo State Police in their ongoing efforts to tackle crime and enhance security across the region.
