The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a suspected armed robber accused of targeting commercial motorcyclists and dispossessing them of their motorcycles in Ibadan and surrounding areas.

According to Ireporter Online, operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) apprehended the suspect, identified as Shafiu Nuhu, on Wednesday, July 16, shortly after an alleged attack on a commercial motorcyclist in the Apata area of Ibadan.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed that the arrest followed credible information received from a concerned resident regarding an attack on a commercial motorcyclist, Muhammadu Kamilu, along Adeniji Estate, Apata.

The suspect was alleged to have attacked the victim with an iron hammer before fleeing with his Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, with registration number AJW 842 QU.

Following the report, police operatives quickly moved to the area, where they arrested Nuhu and recovered the stolen motorcycle alongside the hammer allegedly used during the incident.

The attack reportedly left both the victim and a Good Samaritan, Nathaniel Ibrahim, who attempted to intervene during the robbery, injured. Both individuals were taken to a medical facility where they are currently receiving treatment.

The police stated that during questioning, the suspect allegedly confessed to operating alone and targeting commercial motorcyclists within Ibadan and neighbouring communities.

Authorities revealed that investigations are ongoing to determine whether the suspect is linked to other similar robbery incidents across the metropolis.
