Nigeria Cannot Be Reduced To Corruption’ — Former Ogun Speaker Speaks Out

According to Ireporter Online, Adekumbi made the statement while presenting a paper titled “Preventing Fraud and Corrupt Practices within Government Agencies and Private Sector” at an event organised by the Fight Against Corruption Organisation (FACO) in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

The former lawmaker described corruption as a human weakness that exists across societies, stressing that strong institutional frameworks and ethical standards are necessary to prevent corrupt practices in both public institutions and private businesses.

Adekumbi urged governments at all levels to focus on developing strong and reliable systems that can withstand abuse, adding that promoting ethical leadership would play a crucial role in reducing corruption and building a healthier society.

He noted that Ogun State has the potential to become a model for other states by pursuing a zero-tolerance approach toward corruption and strengthening accountability mechanisms.

The former Speaker recommended measures including full digitisation of government processes, increased transparency, regular audits, staff rotation, and effective protection for whistle-blowers as strategies to combat fraud and corruption.

He also emphasised the need to incorporate civic responsibility and ethical values into school curricula at all levels of education, describing it as a long-term approach to creating a more accountable society.
