Police Nab Three In Enugu For Vandalising High-Voltage Power Cables

According to Ireporter Online, operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have apprehended three suspected vandals accused of stealing high-voltage power cables along the Enugu/Port Harcourt Expressway.

The suspects, identified as Chukwu Kelvin (25), Kenechukwu Ude (25), and Uche Nwankwo (28), were reportedly intercepted by officers attached to the Distress Response Squad (DRS) during a stop-and-search operation at about 4:48 a.m. on October 20, 2025.

A statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, revealed that the police recovered several lengths of vandalised aluminium cables concealed with cassava leaves, a large cable cutter, two pairs of rubber gloves, a black bag containing clothes, and a white minibus with registration number ENU 450 XK, allegedly used for the illegal operation.

SP Ndukwe disclosed that during interrogation, the suspects confessed to vandalising the electric cables from poles along Ukete Road, Oduma community in Aninri Local Government Area. They were reportedly transporting the stolen items to the New Artisan Market in Enugu for sale when they were intercepted.

The police spokesperson further confirmed that the suspects would be charged to court upon completion of investigations.

Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, reiterated the Command’s commitment to curbing acts of vandalism and safeguarding public infrastructure. He appealed to residents to remain vigilant and provide timely information to security agencies to help combat crime across the state.
