Police Promise Full Force Against Illegal Activities plaguing Nigerian ports

The announcement comes as the police intensify efforts to enforce existing laws and deploy anti-crime strategies aimed at curbing nefarious activities, as stated in a press release by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi.
Highlighting recent successes, Adejobi disclosed the apprehension of five suspects implicated in the diversion of bags of wheat belonging to the United Nations World Food Programme (UNWFP), with the recovery of approximately 1,238 bags of wheat in Port-Harcourt on February 6, 2024.
According to the statement, the intercepted wheat, destined for an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Kano State, was fraudulently diverted by the perpetrators. The swift action of police operatives attached to the Eastern Port led to the arrest of the suspects, including Umar Hashim, Edidiong Umoh, Udah Stanley, Abubakar Jariri, and Yunusa Babangida.
The recovered bags of wheat were promptly returned to the World Food Programme, underscoring the police’s commitment to upholding justice and combating criminal activities at the ports.
Efforts are underway to recover the remaining 602 bags of wheat and apprehend other individuals involved in the crime, signaling the police force’s unwavering determination to safeguard economic interests and uphold the rule of law.
