Police Rescue Kidnapped Traditional Ruler in Nasarawa State

The Nasarawa State Police Command has successfully rescued Emmanuel Omanji, the traditional ruler of the Dari community in Kokona Local Government Area, who was abducted by gunmen on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.

This was disclosed in a statement released on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel.

According to the statement, Omanji was rescued unhurt at approximately 9 p.m. on Monday, June 2, in the Panwasa Mountains near Mada Station, following an intense search and rescue operation.

The monarch had been kidnapped from his residence during a violent attack by armed men who fired sporadically to instill fear in the community. Police operatives, backed by local vigilantes and other security agencies, mounted sustained pressure which led to his release.

“Immediately after the rescue, the victim was taken to a medical facility for evaluation and has since been reunited with his family,” Nansel said, adding that efforts are underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, commended the collective efforts that led to the success of the operation and expressed gratitude to members of the public for their cooperation and timely intelligence.
