The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed any prospect of his predecessor, Rotimi Amaechi, mounting a successful campaign in the 2027 presidential election, describing the former Minister of Transportation’s ambition as “dead on arrival,” according to iReporter Online.

Speaking on Politics Today, a Channels Television program on Tuesday, Wike was adamant that Amaechi would fail even to secure the presidential ticket of his new party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

“He (Amaechi) knows he won’t get the ticket.

I read that he said he knows the weaknesses of the president, so he knows how to defeat him, but he also knew the weaknesses of the president in 2022 when the president defeated him mercilessly in the primary,” Wike stated, according to iReporter Online.

The FCT Minister further argued that Amaechi’s governance record disqualifies him as a credible contender for the presidency.

“Nigerians know the last person they will give a ticket to because they know it (Amaechi’s bid) is dead on arrival,” he declared.

According to iReporter Online, Wike also accused Amaechi of disregarding the rule of law during his tenure as governor of Rivers State between 2007 and 2015.

“He cannot fight corruption, he cannot enthrone good governance because he had no respect for the judiciary and the rule of law when he was Rivers State governor,” Wike alleged.

Amaechi, who defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the ADC in 2025, is pursuing the presidency after losing the APC primary in 2022 to then Lagos State governor, Bola Tinubu.
