Sources suggest that Justice Ikyegh collapsed while making a phone call at home, and attempts by family members to revive him were unsuccessful.

He was rushed to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), Makurdi, where he was later confirmed dead by medical doctors.

The 65-year-old jurist was known for his sound judgments and forthrightness. Recently, he was shortlisted by the Federal Judicial Service Commission (FJSC) among the 22 Justices of the Court of Appeal for possible promotion to the apex court from the North Central region on a reserve basis.
