Portable Credits Global Success of ‘Zazu’ To His Popularity Before Olamide’s Collaboration
In a candid revelation, controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, confidently asserted that his song ‘Zazu’ had already gained worldwide recognition before Olamide collaborated on the remix in 2021….READ MORE
Portable emphasized that Olamide’s assistance came after he had already achieved popularity, and ‘Zazu’ had become a global sensation, dispelling any notion that he solely relied on the success of that particular track.
During an episode of the Bae U Barbi show, Portable addressed claims that he had coasted on the success of ‘Zazu’ since gaining fame. He countered these assertions by highlighting his consistent musical output, noting that he had released other hit songs and two albums since the breakthrough of ‘Zazu.’
He stated, “Since we dropped ‘Zazu’ with Baddo [Olamide], that one has gone. I am the one they [fans] are listening to; I am dropping back to back. If you don’t drop again, they will forget you. If I don’t drop again, they won’t hear me. That is why I am putting in more energy.”
Acknowledging the pivotal role of his initial popularity, Portable concluded, “It is because I was popular that Olamide helped me. If I wasn’t popular, they won’t help me. ‘Zazu’ blew worldwide. My freestyle went viral.” This revelation sheds light on the collaborative dynamics between established artists and rising talents in the Nigerian music scene.
