President Tinubu: Our Infrastructure Crisis Justifies Borrowing

This statement came in response to inquiries about the projected ₦13.39 trillion deficit in the proposed national budget for 2025, which the government plans to address through loans.
Tinubu highlighted the pressing infrastructure challenges facing the country, emphasizing the necessity of borrowing to improve the situation.
He remarked, “Borrowing is not a crime. We have been grappling with a mismatch of our needs and have a significant infrastructure deficit.”
He further explained, “Using substantial funds on long-term projects without aligning them with our immediate needs is a miscalculation. While we have strayed off course in the past, I prefer to focus on the path to prosperity for our nation.”
The president outlined the justification for these borrowings, stressing the urgency of capital projects, saying, “Our roads are in disrepair, our internet connectivity is insufficient for a nation, and we still struggle with electricity generation. We must tackle these issues head-on
