“Presidential Nod: Tinubu Appoints Obih, Akinfeleye Into Top University Roles”

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Hon. Chisom D. Obih to the Governing Council of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, according to IReporter Online.

Obih’s appointment comes following the death of a former council member.

In the same announcement, Tinubu also named Prof. Ralph Akinfeleye — a renowned communications scholar and former Head of the Department of Mass Communication at the University of Lagos — to the Governing Council of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State.

Akinfeleye, who chairs the Centre of Excellence in Multimedia and Cinematography as well as Unilag Radio 103.1 FM and Television, replaces Mr. Wahab Owokoniran, now Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Federal University of Transport, Daura, Katsina State.

The president further approved the appointment of Prof. Ibrahim Adamu Yakasai as Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology, Tsafe, Zamfara State.

Alongside Yakasai, Mr. Hamisu Yusuf Yelwa was named Registrar, Usman Nakazalle Sanusi as Bursar, and Dr. Shehu Aminu Liman as Librarian.

Prof. Yakasai, according to IReporter Online, is a retired colonel and the current Provost of the College of Health Sciences at Bayero University, Kano.

He also chairs the Committee of Provosts of Colleges of Medicine in Nigeria and serves on the governing council of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, Benue State.

His academic background includes an MBBS from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, a postgraduate scholarship in the UK from the European Economic Commission, membership and fellowship at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, and a Master’s degree in Medical Education from the University of Winchester.

He later obtained the Fellowship of the International College of Surgeons (FICS) in the USA and the Fellowship of the American College of Surgeons, and also served as Director-General of the Hospitals Management Board in Kano State.

These appointments, according to IReporter Online, reflect President Tinubu’s emphasis on placing seasoned professionals in strategic academic leadership positions to strengthen Nigeria’s higher education system.
