“Okpebholo Quashes Rumors Of Rift With Deputy”
Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has reaffirmed the cordial working relationship between him and his deputy, Mr. Dennis Idahosa, according to IReporter Online.
Okpebholo dismissed claims in some quarters of a rift between them, stressing that since assuming office, every major decision has been taken in consultation with his deputy.
He made this known on Monday evening during a thanksgiving service at the Living Faith Church (Winners Chapel), Adesuwa, Benin City, held to mark Idahosa’s 45th birthday anniversary — an event graced by several top political figures in the state.
Recalling their first meeting at the Transcorp Hilton in Abuja, Okpebholo said he had told Idahosa then that he would be his deputy, adding that “the word of the prophet has come to pass today.”
He further expressed confidence in Idahosa’s loyalty and partnership, noting, “When you hear Akpakorescue, it comes after inside discussions before execution.”
The governor, according to IReporter Online, prayed for God’s grace to lift his deputy to even greater heights.
He described Idahosa as a partner who often reminded him of their shared values and beginnings.
In his remarks, Idahosa recounted his humble beginnings, including the loss of his father at age six and the resilience of his mother in raising the family. He attributed his political success — including becoming a commissioner at 34 — to divine grace.
The challenges he faced growing up, he added, fueled his passion for philanthropy, especially in empowering women and youths.
Former Secretary to the Edo State Government, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, and former Governor Adams Oshiomhole also paid glowing tributes to Idahosa’s character and political courage.
Ize-Iyamu recalled Idahosa’s resignation from government to support former President Goodluck Jonathan, while Oshiomhole noted that his then-deputy, Dr. Pius Odubu, had vouched for Idahosa’s value to the administration.
The celebratory event, according to IReporter Online, ended on a note of unity, with political heavyweights commending the strong bond between the governor and his deputy despite public speculations.
