Rights Advocate Falana Blasts FG Over Prosecution Of #EndBadGovernance Youths, Labels It National Disgrace

the move as a “disgrace to Nigeria,” calling it a violation of the citizens’ constitutional rights to peacefully protest under Sections 39 and 40 of Nigeria’s Constitution and Articles 9 and 10 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples Rights.

In a detailed statement, Falana highlighted that while charges were filed against several protesters in various states, 130 individuals, including 29 minors, were arraigned on multiple charges including treason and incitement to mutiny. He emphasized that minors, per Nigeria’s Child Rights Act, should only be tried in Family Court and not in high courts on serious charges. Falana further argued that using charges of terrorism and treason to intimidate peaceful protesters would not dissuade Nigerians from exercising their democratic rights.
