See What Court Did To Bail Application Of Reps Member Arrested With $498,100 In Rivers

The Federal High Court in Port Harcourt reserved judgment on Tuesday on the bail application of detained House of Representatives member Chinyere Igwe, who is on trial for money laundering.

The lawmaker, who represents Port Harcourt Federal Constituency 2, was arrested by police a day before the presidential election with $498,100, which was said to be part of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Candidate, Atiku Abubakar’s, Rivers financial war chest.

Igwe was said to have had the money without reporting it to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

At the resumption of the matter, the Principal prosecuting lawyer, Chidi Ekeh, from the Attorney-General’s office applied to take over the prosecution from the police.

His application was not opposed by the defendant’s lawyer, Reuben Wanoghor, who insisted on filing a motion for bail.

The Presiding Judge, Justice Stephen Day-Lop Pam, reserved judgment on the bail application and adjourned the case until May 4th, 2023.

He ordered that the lawmaker be held in police custody.
