Senate Grills NNPCL Bosses Over Sh*cking N210tr Audit Queries
The Senate Committee on Public Accounts has summoned the leadership of Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited to appear before it on April 29, 2026, over audit queries amounting to a cumulative N210 trillion spanning 2017 to 2023. According to Ireporter Online, the directive follows concerns raised by the Office of the Auditor-General of the Federation regarding discrepancies and unresolved financial issues in the company’s records.
The committee stated that the Group Chief Executive Officer, Bayo Ojulari, is expected to lead the delegation, accompanied by former GCEO Mele Kyari, ex-Chief Financial Officer Umar Ajia, Bala Wunti, as well as the company’s external auditors.
The resolution was reached following a motion presented by Osita Izunaso and supported by Adams Oshiomhole during plenary deliberations in Abuja. Chairman of the committee, Ahmed Wadada, emphasized the need for comprehensive clarification, noting that previous responses submitted by the company failed to adequately address the audit concerns.
Wadada explained that the panel is particularly interested in obtaining a detailed breakdown of liabilities, including retention fees, legal expenses, and audit-related costs, as well as further clarification on joint venture cash call expenditures and other financial entries highlighted in the audit reports.
He stressed that the committee requires transparent and detailed explanations to effectively carry out its oversight responsibilities, urging strict adherence to the scheduled appearance date. Meanwhile, committee member Abdul Ningi highlighted the importance of respecting legislative summons, noting that cooperation with oversight institutions is vital for accountability in a democratic system.
The committee subsequently granted the NNPCL a two-week window to respond, underscoring the necessity for full engagement with all issues raised in the audit findings.
