Seven Dead, Others Injured in Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Crash
A tragic road accident claimed the lives of at least seven people early Saturday morning near the NIPCO filling station along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The spokesperson of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun State, Florence Okpe, confirmed the incident in a statement issued from Abeokuta.
The accident, which occurred around 7:00 a.m., involved three vehicles: a Mack truck bearing registration number SEY 363 YY, a tanker marked T2900LA, and a passenger bus identified as LSD 180 YA.
According to the FRSC, a total of 15 individuals were involved—13 males and 2 females. Seven persons were confirmed dead on the scene, while four others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Okpe explained that the accident was caused by excessive speed and loss of control by the driver of the Mack truck, which led to the collision with the other vehicles.
The injured victims were rushed to Divine Touch Hospital and Glory Centre Hospital in Ibafo for treatment. The bodies of the deceased were deposited at the Idera morgue in Sagamu.
Sector Commander Akinwumi Fasakin expressed condolences to the families affected and urged anyone whose relatives were traveling that morning and have yet to arrive to contact the FRSC office in Ibafo for updates.
