Sh*cking Trend: Slim Ladies Allegedly Using Pregnancy For Body Enhancement — Nedu
According to Ireporter Online, Nigerian media personality Chinedu Ani, popularly known as Nedu, has sparked widespread debate after alleging that some young women in Lagos deliberately get pregnant in order to gain weight, only to later terminate the pregnancy once they achieve their desired body size.
Nedu made the controversial claim during his programme on Max 102.3 FM, stating that he has encountered several accounts of very slim women who intentionally use pregnancy as a method of adding body mass. He noted that, for some of these women, the physical changes associated with pregnancy—particularly weight gain—appear to be the primary motivation.
He stated that after gaining the desired weight, some allegedly proceed to terminate the pregnancy. His revelation immediately triggered a wave of reactions, as many listeners and social media users shared similar stories and expressed concern over what they described as an already existing trend.
One respondent, Chioma Sucre, recounted knowing a colleague whose sudden weight gain led many to assume she was pregnant, only for the pregnancy signs to disappear shortly after. Another contributor, Krishy Beauty, claimed the practice has been known for years, adding that some women now opt for supplements instead.
Others also shared their perspectives, with Lolo Ezenwa saying she has heard of cases where women buy fattening medications from pharmacies, while Edafe Fego insisted the practice has existed for more than five years and is not hidden. Another comment from Precious Nnenna referenced a medical doctor who confirmed that some women risk long-term reproductive harm just to achieve quick physical changes.
Some users recounted even more extreme methods, including taking certain medications purely for weight gain, while others expressed shock that women would allegedly go as far as using pregnancy to enhance their appearance ahead of events such as birthdays, only to end the pregnancy thereafter.
The discussion continues to elicit mixed reactions online, with many expressing disbelief and concern over the alleged trend.
