Sh*ckwaves In Defence Circle As Nigerian Military Arrests 16 Officers Over Indiscipline

According to Ireporter Online, the Nigerian military authorities have confirmed the arrest of sixteen officers over allegations of indiscipline and breaches of service regulations. The disclosure was made in a statement by the Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, who explained that the actions of the officers were deemed inconsistent with the standards and values of the Armed Forces.

Preliminary investigations revealed that many of the affected officers had longstanding grievances, primarily tied to career stagnation and repeated failures in promotion examinations. Some of them, according to military sources, were already facing charges or awaiting trial for various offences before their latest arrest.

The Defence Headquarters emphasized that the arrests were part of routine disciplinary measures designed to preserve order and professionalism within the military. Brigadier General Gusau stressed that once investigations are concluded, indicted officers will be subjected to the full military disciplinary process in line with established procedures.

He further assured that the disciplinary actions were lawful and necessary to uphold the integrity of the Armed Forces, warning that no form of misconduct that threatens the institution’s constitutional role under democratic governance will be tolerated. The statement reiterated the military’s commitment to maintaining discipline, loyalty, and professionalism at all times.
