Sh**k Exit: Osimhen Suspended! Galatasaray Faces Europa League Nightmare
Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen, will miss Galatasaray’s UEFA Europa League Round of 16 playoffs first-leg clash against AZ Alkmaar tonight due to suspension.
This comes as a major setback for both Osimhen and the Turkish club, as the Nigerian forward has been a key player since joining Galatasaray on loan from Napoli.…..READ MORE
Osimhen received his third yellow card of the season during a dramatic match against Ajax, where he scored a late goal in a 2-1 defeat. His suspension is a significant blow to Galatasaray, who are looking to bounce back from their struggles in the group stage, where they finished 14th, recording two draws and a loss in their last matches.
The Nigerian international has been a standout performer for Galatasaray in the Europa League this season, netting five goals in six appearances—just two goals shy of the tournament’s top scorer. In total, he has scored nine goals in 14 Europa League outings, highlighting his impact on the European stage.
His absence adds to Galatasaray’s growing list of unavailable players, with Mauro Icardi, Yunus Akgun, and Ismail Jakobs ruled out due to injuries. Additionally, Davinson Sanchez and Lucas Torreira are also suspended, further depleting the squad.
To strengthen the team, Galatasaray recently signed Alvaro Morata and Carlos Cuesta, who are available for selection after being registered in the Europa League squad. However, Ahmed Kutucu, Mario Lemina, and Przemyslaw Frankowski were left out of the registration.
As Galatasaray prepares for this crucial encounter at the AFAS Stadion, they aim to secure a favorable result despite their squad challenges. The winner of the two-legged tie will advance to face either Manchester United or Tottenham Hotspur in the Round of 16 next month.
