Shockwaves In Edo: APC Dominates Assembly With New Leadership Appointments
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State took control of the Edo State House of Assembly on Monday, naming Jonathan Aigbokhan (APC–Esan West) as the new Majority Leader……..READ MORE
During the plenary session, Speaker Blessing Agbebaku read a letter from the APC leadership announcing the new principal officers. The letter confirmed Aigbokhan’s appointment as Majority Leader, Addeh Isibor as Deputy Majority Leader, and Mustapha Lucky as Chief Whip.
The APC now holds 13 seats following defections from four lawmakers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party, reducing the PDP’s seat count to 11.
The Deputy Chief Whip position, previously held by Richard Edosa (APC-Oredo West), was abolished as the House no longer officially recognizes such a role. Edosa recently defected from the Labour Party to the APC.
Speaker Agbebaku noted that while the PDP would also submit its list of principal officers, the difference between the majority and minority status should not obstruct the House’s collective responsibility to the people of Edo State.
“What matters is that we all work together to ensure the success of Governor Monday Okpebholo,” Agbebaku emphasized.
In related news, Edo State APC Chairman, Jarret Tenebe, issued an ultimatum to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), demanding the immediate conduct of by-elections for two vacant federal legislative seats in Edo State. Tenebe expressed frustration over the delay, which he said violated democratic principles and electoral guidelines. The vacancies resulted from the resignation of Monday Okpebholo, now the governor, and Dennis Idahosa, who became the deputy governor.
Tenebe stressed the importance of timely elections to ensure proper representation for the affected constituencies.
