Speaking at the inauguration of the re-established Hisbah Corps, which aims to address societal vices in the state, Governor Aliyu emphasized that the Hisbah’s role is to complement, not replace, traditional security forces in safeguarding the lives and property of Sokoto residents.

“The Hisbah operates under legal authority and is authorized to make arrests, transferring suspects to the police for prosecution in a Shari’a Court,” Governor Aliyu clarified. He also assured that the activities of the Hisbah would be closely monitored for compliance with the laws.

In his remarks, the governor announced the provision of patrol vehicles, motorcycles, and other operational tools to the corps and noted plans to establish local government offices for the Hisbah in the near future. He called for public cooperation to ensure the Hisbah can effectively carry out its responsibilities.
