comment referring to President Bola Tinubu as “baba go-slow.”
In a lecture at the Chinua Achebe Leadership Forum at Yale University, Obasanjo described the 2023 elections as a travesty and accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of compromising the BVAS.
However, speaking on Channels TV’s Inside Sources, Akande expressed concern over the state of Nigeria’s political leadership, attributing the nation’s challenges to a deep-rooted leadership crisis.
He remarked, “During our segment on InsideSources, we pointed out that former presidents like Obasanjo should aim higher than simply mocking others. Nigeria’s political issues stem from a crisis in leadership, which in itself is a more profound problem.”
Obasanjo: Corruption Is a Monster That Stifled My Efforts
Meanwhile, during a tribute to the late Justice Olayinka Ayoola, former Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Obasanjo spoke on the pervasive issue of corruption in Nigeria. He admitted that while he made efforts during his presidency, the overwhelming force of corruption hindered his progress.
Obasanjo, who appointed Ayoola to the ICPC, stated, “Corruption remains a monstrous challenge for our country. It’s not that ICPC or Ayoola didn’t do their jobs—it was the pressure of this overwhelming corruption. I stand before you today to honor this great man and his contributions to Nigeria.”
