Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar has opened up about the difficult period she experienced while battling serious health challenges, revealing that some colleagues she expected to hear from did not reach out to her.

According to Ireporter Online, Abubakar said she was initially hurt by the way some people in the entertainment industry responded to her situation but has chosen not to hold grudges against them.

Speaking with Saturday Beats, the actress explained that she did not consider many of the individuals involved to be close friends, adding that rumours and assumptions could have contributed to the misunderstandings surrounding her situation.

Abubakar said people who heard allegations or information attributed to her should have contacted her directly for clarification instead of acting on assumptions.

She also recalled receiving little or no support from some colleagues while she was ill, saying the experience was painful but ultimately strengthened her faith.

“You didn’t visit me when I was sick, nothing. They didn’t send anybody. They just left me to die, but God said I will live,” she said.

Despite her disappointment, Abubakar stressed that she did not believe her colleagues owed her anything and said she had no intention of holding their actions against them.

“They don’t owe me anything, and I do not owe them anything,” she said.

The actress attributed her survival and recovery to her faith, describing God’s role in her life as significant throughout the difficult period.

She said her experience also changed her perspective on life and relationships, adding that she witnessed how different people behaved towards her and the judgments that were made while she was battling illness.

Abubakar, however, maintained that she preferred to focus on the future rather than dwell on past disappointments.

She said the experience had transformed her personality and changed the way she communicates and relates with people.

The actress also expressed appreciation to individuals who supported her during the difficult period, particularly those who assisted her with medical care.

She singled out Nigerian singer Patoranking for his support, describing him as one of the people who responded positively when she reached out.

Abubakar also said she made several attempts to contact music executive Don Jazzy but did not receive a response.

“I sent messages to Don Jazzy over 19 times but he never replied. Ahmed Musa was kind to me, too,” she said.

She further praised former Big Brother Naija housemate Mercy Eke, saying her support was particularly unexpected and meaningful.

Abubakar also acknowledged the assistance of some of her younger colleagues, including Destiny Etiko, Lizzy Gold, Monica Friday, Queeneth Agbor and Regina Daniels, whom she said provided significant support, including access to medical treatment.

The actress said she remained grateful to everyone who stood by her during the period, stressing that their assistance was something she would not easily forget.
