Southwest Governors Unleash Security Plan To Defend Region From ISWAP Attacks
Governors of the Southwest region have reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding the region against potential threats from the insurgent group ISWAP.

Additionally, the forum resolved to establish a Food Inflation Joint Monitoring Team to strengthen inter-state collaboration and tackle rising food costs.
The meeting, hosted by Lagos State Governor and Chairman of the Southwest Governors’ Forum, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, was attended by governors Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo), Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), and Ademola Adeleke (Osun).

- The governors commended ongoing efforts to maintain peace, particularly during the festive season.
- Acknowledging the security threats posed by ISWAP, they pledged to strengthen collaboration between state security agencies, local vigilantes, and the Nigerian Police Force.
- Plans were announced to deploy advanced surveillance technology and improve intelligence gathering.

- The forum praised President Bola Tinubu’s administration for economic improvements, citing stable petroleum supply and exchange rate management.
- It called on citizens to continue supporting federal economic policies.
- Governors agreed to monitor food inflation and regulate unscrupulous middlemen affecting prices.

Southwest Development Initiatives
- The governors welcomed the establishment of the Southwest Development Commission, resolving to situate its headquarters in Ibadan once finalized.
- They also endorsed the Oodua Investment Company’s ongoing redevelopment projects, including Ibadan’s Premier Hotel and Lagos Airport Hotel.

Education and DAWN Commission
- The forum commended the successful rollout of the student loan scheme under the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFund), urging Southwest students to take full advantage.
- The DAWN Commission was praised for its work in promoting economic growth, infrastructure development, and industrialization across the region.
With these resolutions, the Southwest governors have reiterated their united front against security threats while working to improve economic stability and regional development.
